Diana's Peak

Diana’s Peak National Park covers 81 hectares.  Tree Fern, Black Cabbage, Dogwood, Whitewood and Cabbage Trees dominate the vegetation of the Peaks.

The National Park is home to many different types of invertebrates; most common are the Golden Sail Spider, The Blushing Snail and Weevil.  Unfortunately I did not get an opportunity to photograph any of these!

Bringing to you the landscapes and flora from Diana’s Peak National Park:

My Jacobs Ladder Challenge

Jacobs Ladder is a 699 step unevenly cut rock staircase dominating the sloping cliffs of Jamestown. The steps are around 30 centimeters high and the same wide.

I used Jacobs Ladder frequently during my time at senior school.  It was the quickest way to get into Jamestown after school.

Yesterday, I wanted to prove to myself that many years later I could still do it!

One last chance to change my mind!

The ascend begins

Nearly half way

It's much steeper at the top

Yes I did it!!!

Looking back

All 699 steps were worth it for the view

A big thank you to my sister Glynis for capturing my exhilarating climb of Jacobs Ladder.

The St Helena Wirebird

My visit to Flagstaff in Deadwood on Sunday afternoon was all about enjoying a late afternoon walk with family and friends.

In addition to the beautiful landscapes, my afternoon became even more special with spotting the Wirebird.

The Wirebird is St Helena’s only surviving endemic bird. I am so happy I was camera ready!

My first three weeks

Hello everyone.  Three weeks on St Helena and I am settled and have acclimatised to the warm weather, change of diet and lifestyle.

My 05:45am alarm for a day at the office has been replaced by the sound of roosters crowing at sunrise.  This is the time of day I love to exercise, before the day time temperatures soar to over 25 degrees Celsius.

Lazy afternoons are spent admiring the dramatic sunsets.

How wonderful it is to enjoy the island fruits such as mangoes, bananas and papayas and many more seasonal varieties to look forward during my stay!

Wishing you Happy Easter holidays!

The Journey

After a long haul night flight from Heathrow via Frankfurt I arrived in sunny Cape Town.
The afternoon was spent catching up with friends at the V&A Waterfront and enjoying lunch and drinks at Quay  Four.

The Waterfront was buzzing with tourists enjoying the afternoon sunshine.
I was so happy to be back in one of my favourite cities and enjoying the welcoming ambiance of Africa.

A visit to the V&A Waterfront would not be complete without some time for retail therapy.

Time for an afternoon nap at my hotel, “The Commodore” before pre-dinner drinks at the Mount Nelson Hotel.

Time to embark on the St Helena for a 5 day cruise.

Laden with passengers and cargo we  finally depart
 Cape Town for St Helena.

Then it was all about meeting new friends at sea.
